Squale's 65th anniversary: ??a limited edition watch with Grimoldi
To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the foundation of the watchmaking Maison, Squale and Grimoldi had a special model built in just 65 examples.
For this reason it was decided to launch a model on the market for the first time with unique characteristics expressly designed for the occasion: the choice left no doubts and fell on the iconic 1521. The idea of ??presenting something "alternative ”, but without distorting the most famous model of the Maison, led to maintaining the lines that so many successes have achieved and continue to achieve.
In addition to remaining faithful to the lines of the 1521, it was decided to optimize the underwater nature of the watch in every detail.
Let's go into detail
The winding crowns placed at “3.oo” o'clock often interfere with the movements of the hand, this is because the crowns are oversized in order to increase their robustness. Over time, this friction can create lesions at the base of the wrist near the back of the hand, a situation which in some cases makes the watch unusable: to limit this phenomenon, Squale has positioned the crown at "4.oo" o'clock.
In this new version of the 1521, it was decided to take a further step forward by placing the crown directly on the inside of the wrist, totally avoiding the possibility of friction. These solutions are often defined as "left-handed" because if worn on the right wrists they appear "aesthetically" like traditional watches worn on the left wrists by right-handed people.
To strengthen the professional character of the Squale 65th anniversary, "micromillage" processing was used for the aesthetic finish of the case, obtaining a matt effect, without emissions of reflections. Necessary finish for watches dedicated to the military world, but also useful for those who practice freediving or sport or recreational diving, since in certain cases the reflections of light could annoy and alert marine fauna.
The date has been eliminated not only to make the dial "cleaner", but also because what is not there cannot be broken and for a "work" instrument the effectiveness and reliability in the most difficult situations is very important.
It was also decided to lighten the graphics of the dial by optimizing it as much as possible.
The choice of round points actually makes the dial less crowded, leaving more space for the area occupied by the hands. This is because in the case of diving in murky waters, using masks, full face masks or diver's helmets which can fog up, the round point is not confused with the pointer which by its nature is straight. Still with regard to readability, as regards the luminous material, it was decided to use the "reinforcement" technique, that is, instead of making one to three application steps (in some cases five), there are 15 steps to give the maximum prominence and duration of visibility in the dark.
We also went further with the hands, increasing the size of the minute hand since during the diving phases it is essential to read the minutes well (the hour is relatively useful). Not even the second hand was immune to the improvements: the luminous point was made round and with a contrasting color because those who dive deep and use the "deep stop" technique during decompression ascents have the fundamental need to read well seconds.
As for the strap, in addition to the institutional black, a second orange one is given as a tribute to give a "glamorous" touch to this version: Squale has also just presented the new steel bracelet and for metal enthusiasts this is an excellent accessory.
For the occasion, instead of the traditional box, the watch will be delivered with an elegant natural leather travel pouch designed to accommodate the Squale 65th anniversary with its accessories or more watches.
