SPECIAL BOX AND DOUBLE STRAP

Squale and Grimoldi wanted to create a special model built in just 65 pieces to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the watchmaking Maison.
For this reason, it was decided to launch on the market for the first time, a model with unique features expressly designed for the occasion.

The choice left no doubt and fell on the iconic 1521.
Since they wanted to present something “different” but without distorting the Maison’s most famous model, they opted to maintain the lines that have been and continue to be so successful.

In addition to remaining faithful to the lines of the 1521, they decided to optimize the underwater nature of the watch in every detail. But let’s go into detail
As sports watchmaking enthusiasts well know, the winding crowns placed at “3” o’clock often interfere with the movements of the hand, this is because the crowns are oversized in order to increase their robustness. Over time, these frictions can create lesions at the base of the wrist near the back of the hand. In some cases, this situation makes the watch unusable.

To limit this phenomenon, Squale has positioned the crown at “4.oo” o’clock.

In this version, it was decided to take a further step forward by placing the crown directly on the inside of the wrist, completely avoiding the possibility of friction.
These solutions are often defined as “for left-handed people” because, if worn on the right wrist, they appear “aesthetically” like traditional watches worn on the left wrists by right-handed people.

To reinforce the professional character of this model, the aesthetic finish of the case was made using the “microbillage” process that makes it opaque, without emitting light reflections. A necessary finish for watches dedicated to the military world, but also useful for those who practice freediving or recreational sports diving, because in certain cases the reflections of light could annoy or alert marine fauna.

The date has been eliminated not only to make the dial “cleaner” but also because what is not there cannot be broken and for a “work” tool, effectiveness and reliability in the most difficult situations is very important.

For the graphics of the dial, it was decided to lighten it by optimizing it as much as possible. The choice of round points actually makes the dial less crowded, leaving more space for the area occupied by the hands. This because in the case of diving in murky waters, full face masks or diving helmets that can fog up, the round point does not get confused with the hand which by its nature is straight. Still on the subject of readability, as regards the luminous material, it was decided to use the “reinforcement” technique, that is, instead of making one to three application passes (in some cases five), the passes are 15 to give maximum prominence and duration of visibility in the dark.

We also went further with the hands, increasing the size of the minute hand because during the diving phases it is essential to read the minutes well (the hours is relatively useful). Even the second hand was not immune to improvements... the luminous point was made round and with a contrasting color because those who dive at depth and for decompression ascents use the "deep stop" technique have the fundamental need to read the seconds well.

As for the strap, in addition to the institutional black, a second one in orange is given as a gift just to give a "glamorous" touch.
