On the occasion of its 65th anniversary, Squale celebrates this milestone together with a historical partner, the Italian Navy, recalling a long and fruitful collaboration that began forty years ago with the first supply of watches. The year 2024 holds particular significance for the Italian Navy, as it celebrates its underwater activities. Creating a dive watch for this occasion is therefore highly symbolic. The 1521 Marina Militare is a limited edition of 500 pieces, designed as a commemorative, historical, and highly performant watch. The choice of the 1521 collection is symbolic, as the first model supplied to the Italian Navy was precisely a 1521. This legacy continues with the creation of this functional and evocative timepiece. Of the first 1521 models delivered to the Italian Navy in the 1980s, very few exist today, one of which is preserved in the G.O.S. museum in La Spezia. The rarity of these models is due to the fact that, being supplied to Navy divers as military-grade tools, they were returned by the military and destroyed according to protocol.
The current 1521 Marina Militare has been designed to be the most elegant among the 1521 models, highlighting its qualities as a celebratory watch. The 316L steel case features a brushed finish with polished bevels, while the black dial has a brushed finish, creating unique light reflections thanks to the applied polished steel indices.
Orange is the dominant color, an important symbol for both the Italian Navy and Squale.
The official logo of the Italian Navy is orange, as are the iconic minute hands of Squale dive watches, especially the 1521. At 6 o'clock, the orange Italian Navy logo is displayed, as well as the minute markers around the rehaut.
In this extraordinary limited edition, the iconic minute hand is bordered in white with orange SuperLuminova inside, perfectly matching the bezel where the first quarter features the same shade of SuperLuminova.
The design of this dive watch pays homage to Squale’s long tradition and its partnership with the Italian Navy.
The case back displays the Italian Navy logo and the sequential number out of 500 of this limited edition. These details confer historical and symbolic value to the watch, making it a unique and significant piece.
To complete the operational function of this watch, the 1521 Marina Militare comes with a black microfiber strap with orange stitching, resistant to water and diving. It also includes an additional black natural rubber strap branded Squale.
